VMCC (Oxford Section) – Boxing Day Meet 2015

The  Oxford section of the VMCC will be starting their Boxing Day Meet/Run from the Red Lion in Cassington at around 10 o’clock. All enthusiasts are welcome to come along and see the bikes or bring their own should they wish. The run will be from Cassington to the White Hart at Fyfield (A420) followed by the Ron Amey Trial in the afternoon in the old quarry at Besselsleigh.

British and Classic Bike Day – The Hare and Hounds – Wardington – September 20th 2015

I have recently received notification of the event detailed on the poster. Given good weather it sounds like it is well worth riding out to.

For the tea and coffee it’s just donations, there are reasonably priced burgers and hot dogs, a good raffle and all the proceeds apart from beer sales go to the Air Ambulance, also there is a Bike of the Day trophy.

The Hare and Hounds is located (as stated in the poster) only a few miles NE of Banbury so this gives the oil a chance to get nicely warm but not too far for old knees.

Cafe Racer Day – Saturday September 12th (Report)

On Saturday September 12th the local branch of the Norton Owners Club organised the (now) annual Cafe Racer Day at The Vine in Cumnor. The event was well supported with riders travelling from wide and far and the selection of bikes in the car park was excellent.

The Norton F1 Rotary racer was considered to be the best in show but many other worthy machines were commended.

I suspect that the event will be held again next year at the same time and at the same venue, well worth a visit.

A selection of the motorcycles that turned up are shown below.

Cassington Bikenight 2015

Cassington Bike Night 2015 was blessed with fabulous weather and as far as I could determine took place without incident. I suspect that the total number of bikes visiting the event was well up to the level of previous years. The quantity and variety of Brit bikes that parked up on The Green was fantastic and included many new to the event. Some VOC members enjoyed the evening and displayed their bikes. Most of the village was involved in one or another capacity which helps make the event very special. The images speak for themselves reflecting the variety of bikes and people that turned up.

This event takes place every year on the last Monday of June and is now organised by the village of Cassington.

My admiration goes out to Peter Woodward who can seen (in image no 2) starting his pre war MSS using his left leg.

Whichford Classic Car and Bike Meets – The Norman Knight

The monthly Classic Car and Bike Meets at The Norman Knight at Whichford have once again resumed and the 2nd this year will be held on Thursday May 21st from 18.00 hrs onwards.

This will be repeated until September. The Norman Knight has a new owner and he is keen to encourage the event with an outside bar and a bbq.

Anyone wishing to co-ordinate a run to Whichford let me know the details, otherwise make your own way there and enjoy the evening, it is always good fun with a wide and interesting variety of machinery (se previous posts). I am unable to attend the event this month.

The event is held every month on the 3rd Thursday

BMRCO Best of British Bike day Saturday May 30th 2015 open invite

The British Motorcycle Riders Club (Oxford) will once again host “The Best of British Bike day” event. It will  be held at The Red Lion in Cassington on Saturday May 30 th from 11.00 am to 6pm. All British bikes are invited to park up at the rear of the Red Lion whether ridden by a club member or not. If you tip up on a non Brit bike then park at the front of the pub along the road. This is the 3rd year the event will be organised and it is a very relaxed affair whereby we can enjoy our rich British motorcycle heritage. No entry fee, no judging, just turn up and enjoy. For information and  photos of previous events check out the information posts from 2013/4 on the BMRCO website.

This year the featured marque will be BSA and any British competition bike. Motorcycles that fulfill either or both of these criteria are invited to gather appropriately in the pub garden.

By competition bike this means any bike that has seen the heat of competition whatever that may have been. This gives you the opportunity to wheel out the (British) sprinter, trials, roadrace, grasstrack bike on which you competed all those years ago but otherwise now keep in your shed. Do invite anyone you know who has such a bike to come along, they will be assured of a warm welcome.

The Red Lion will organise a BBQ and of course is always happy to dispense liquid refreshment.

If you have any questions about this event please either contact me (Graham Lay). Contact details are to be found on the site).

In 2014 we had 19 velocettes in formation….

VOC Oxford Section annual meal – Saturday March 7th 2015

The re-sheduled and inaugural annual meal took place on Saturday March 7th 2015 and was attended by 4 members and their respective wives. The meal was at the hand and Shears in Church Hanborough and we were all well pleased with both the food and the service.

It is the intention (and the hope) that the event next year will be better attended because those that did attend thoroughly enjoyed the evening. If I organise the  meal next year I promise to not double book myself for the evening which was in no small part responsible for only 4 members being able to re-schedule…….

VOC (Oxford Section) “Winter Meal” 2015 – February Friday 27th 20.00 hrs – Cancelled

(The Winter Meal has been cancelled/postponed due to my having double booked myself for this evening –  options to be discussed at Feb 9th meeting)

During our December monthly meet at The Red Lion those present agreed that it would be most pleasant to enjoy a meal together (belated Christmas Meal?).

It was also agreed in the spirit of “bonding” that our good ladies should also be included.

Consequently I have provisionally made a booking at The Hand and Shears in Church Hanborough for Friday February 27th at 20.00 hrs 2015.

For those interested in the venue and it’s location check out their website

I would be grateful if you could let me know whether you would like to be included in this social event. (so far there are 3 couples).

Regards – Graham
